Safety Tips When Working Out at Home
Safety is one area that is commonly overlooked when talking about a gym in your home. While this is not usually an issue with a paid membership gym due to several people usually nearby, at home we have to keep in mind that we are usually working out alone. Below are a few tips that should be taken into consideration when working out at home.
1. Use collars on free weights - Many injuries have happened by weights sliding off the bar bells. Once a weight slips off one end, it will cause a chain reaction until all weights have fallen off. This can cause serious injuries from the falling weight as well as the awkward strain on your body.
2. Maintain proper form - Perhaps the leading cause of injuries while working out at home comes from not maintaining proper form while working out. It is far more important to use proper form than to try lifting heavier weights. A good idea is to install mirrors to allow you to view yourself while working out. This will help you keep a check on your form and make sure you are performing the exercise properly.
3. Use a spotter - If you are doing some exercises where heavier weights are involved, it is a good idea to ask a friend or family member to spot you. Let your spotter know how many reps you are going to perform so they are aware and can help assist you better.
These three tips should be taken into consideration when working out at home. Practicing these simple steps can help prevent you from having an accident while working out at home.
